The Water-walking Lizard

The Basilisk Lizards are a distinct species of lizards that can walk on water! Amazing right?

Before diving into the water walking abilities of the basilisk lizard, Let's go through the 3 species:

  • Plumed Basilisk (Basiliscus plumifrons)

  • Western Basilisk (Basiliscus galeritus)

  • Brown Basilisk (Basiliscus vittatus)

So, How do these lizards walk on water?

These Omnivorous Reptilians walk on water thanks to 3 characteristics:

  • Speed

  • Wide feet

  • Fringes

Now a basilisk's foot is fascinating, It's wide and has fringes at the bottom. A basilisk can run on water for 24km/h, roughly 15mph, That's as fast as we can run!

However if we tried to run on water we would just sink.

I could go on, but I think that would be a little boring so I hope you enjoy this video below!

It's not the best quality, but I hope the knowledge will be worth it!
